Ely, United Kingdom, 6 September 2018 – Cyber security expert Vigilant Software has updated its CyberComply platform, introducing personal data records, which allow you to create one or more records at an input point.
With the EU’s GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) now in force, data protection should be at the top of every organisation’s agenda. 826 million data records were reported lost or stolen in 2017, and in 2018 this number will likely be much higher. The GDPR and the potential fines for non-compliance mean how organisations manage their data has never been more important.
Vigilant Software’s Data Flow Mapping Tool, a module in its CyberComply platform, makes it easy for organisations to create data flow maps that help meet the GDPR’s Article 30 compliance requirements, and can be reviewed, revised and updated when needed.
However, until now, there was no way to show which data items were stored on which records, or how records were passed between assets. The new personal data records feature:
- Gives you the flexibility to chart the flow of either individual categories of data or entire records through your processes, and better reflect how your business processes actually work;
- Make it easy to tie critical information about recipients and retention periods with categories of personal data, which is a key part of satisfying Article 30 compliance requirements; and
- Gives you the ability to create your own categories of personal data and data subjects, so that you can better reflect the circumstances of your organisation and your processing activities.
Gemma Platt, managing executive of Vigilant Software, said: “The update will retain the separation between data items and records for existing users who already have these entities within their process maps. Essentially, their data items will appear grouped together at the input points where they were created but they will not be attached to any record. Existing records will still be shown on the assets where they were created, and customers will be able to edit or remove these records, but they will not be able to add data items to them.”
